Hey, Mrs Gee here! I would like to share my 5 minute dessert challenge. I was inspired by Julie and Julia the movie, and I’m just obsessed as well on creating meals for my family in a rather fast fashion because I do multi-task most of the time.
Why 5 minutes? Because as moms, we really have a habit of taking on a lot of tasks (guilty here) but we are not going to just let our kids eat out of a carton box or from take-outs everyday. Well, it could be challenging at the beginning but as anything we put our heads and heart on, we thrive!
I can relate to the many busy moms who ordered cakes and pastries from me. They really have no time to make cakes so they have to resort to trusting homebakers to do it for them. The fact that I am one with these moms whose on her toes almost 24/7 (excluding the luxury of my 4-5 hours of sleep), I feel for them when they tell me that there will be days that they still want to make a memorable meal spread even for an ordinary day for their loved ones, but just don’t know if they can have the energy and time.
Reality vs expectation, the energy would already be spent on just making the main meal. Nothing left for prepping dessert.
A GOOD IDEA
So when the idea of making (and writing a blog) dessert within 5 minutes – DING!
I did a happy dance in the corner of my kitchen as the idea excites me for being able to serve and do the one thing I can do even without much preparation – COOK.
I know you also want to feel like a rockstar cook to your loved ones, so let me help you in the best way I can. Go put on your apron and pull up your hair into a bun and take on Mrs Gee’s 5 Minute Dessert Challenge!
You can do it, I know so because I also took on this challenge and prepared a simple dessert in 5 minutes! It turned out so good, it was gone in a wiff! I did not even had the chance to take an actual pic. Probably going to make some again in a few days, I will just make them crave for it.
Here’s one of my 5 minute classy desserts!
You’ll need:
1 cup strong black coffee
250g heavy cream (or mascarpone if you feel a little bit more classy)
2 tbsp icing sugar (confectioners’ sugar for some)
8 lady fingers (that’s broas, ‘bro)
1 ½ tsp dark unsweetened cocoa powder
To Assemble:
- Pour the coffee into a bowl (a large see-through one would be fancy). Place the heavy cream (or mascarpone) in a mixing bowl, sift the icing sugar over and mix well.
- Dip a lady finger (LF) into the coffee, turn to coat, then allow the coffee to drain back into the bowl. Dip and drain the rest to ensure the coffee has soaked through to the middle. Break the soaked biscuit in half then lay the haves in the base of a ¾ cup serving glass or bowl. Repeat this for more glass or bowl if you’d like single serves.
- Divide half the heavy cream (or mascarpone) mixture over the LF. Repeat with the remaining LF to make another layer in each glass.
- Top with a final layer of cream (or mascarpone)
- Sift the cocoa powder over the top, through a small sieve. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and chill for up to 4 hours.
Easy peasy! Husband and kids will wow over your masterpiece!
Just be ready for the big coffee breath kiss!

MRS. GEE’S INGREDIENT PICK of the DAY:
MASCARPONE
If you noticed, the ingredients of this recipe are all quite familiar except for one. So I picked this ingredient to highlight – the mascarpone cheese.
Mascarpone, a rich and creamy cheese that originated from the Northern Italian region of Lombardy, and is mainly made of 2 ingredients – heavy cream and tartaric acid. High fat, creamy and perfectly tangy cheese but sweeter compared to other creamy cheese such as ricotta and cream cheese. This is why it is perfect for desserts!
I’ll be docking in more of my easy and delicious pastry and dessert recipes. Keep an eye on my next posts!
